Knee pain and the leg around it
Rolfing for Knee Pain in Folsom
“After seeing Ryan, I could feel a difference and Even my husband noticed a difference in my mood. It's now been about a week, and I still feel an overall difference in my body and alignment.”
The knee mostly does what the hip and the foot ask of it. When those two are not sharing the work, the knee is often the place that complains.
Looking above and below the knee
A knee can ache from an old sprain, from years of standing with the thigh turned in, or from a foot that cannot adapt to the ground. Rolfing pays attention to that chain: foot, ankle, calf, thigh, hip, and pelvis. The painful knee is the signal, not always the whole story.
Low back and sciatic-type patterns sometimes belong in the same picture, because the leg and the pelvis share the load of standing and walking.
What a session may include
Ryan may work around the knee and also with the foot, hip, and pelvis that are steering it. A few steps of walking often tell more than pressing on the sore spot. You should be able to say if the pressure is too much.
The aim is a leg that can share load. It is not a knee that has been forced straight.
What this work does not do
Rolfing is not orthopedic care. It does not repair a torn ligament, a meniscus, or advanced joint damage, and it is not a substitute for imaging when the knee locks or gives way. Swelling after a twist, or a knee that is red and hot, needs a medical visit first.
If the ache is recurring and tied to how you stand and walk, structural work may be one useful part of taking care of it. It is not a cure.
This work may fit if you notice
- Knee discomfort that returns with walking, stairs, standing, or long drives.
- One leg, hip, or foot doing more than the other.
- An old ankle or hip injury that still seems connected to the knee.
- Temporary relief from local work, then the same pattern coming back.
Questions people ask
Can Rolfing help knee pain?
Rolfing may support some people with recurring knee strain by working with the foot, ankle, hip, pelvis, and the way the leg bears weight. It is not medical treatment for ligament tears, meniscus injury, or arthritis.
Will you only work on my knee?
Usually no. The knee is often caught between the hip and the foot. Sessions follow that relationship rather than treating the knee as an isolated part.
Is this a good idea after surgery?
Only with your surgeon’s clearance, and with a clear conversation about what is still healing. Rolfing is not post-operative rehabilitation.
When should I see a doctor first?
Seek medical care first for a knee that locks, gives way, or swells after an injury, for redness and fever, or for pain that is sudden, severe, or worsening.
